Our next unit is all about SCIENCE! Physical and Chemical changes to be more precise. The children have been looking at the different states of matter and how matter can change from one state to the next. We have also looked at three properties of matter, mass, volume and density. Over the next few weeks we will be investigating what the impact of a physical or chemical change might have on the properties of matter. The students will be encouraged to ask questions and relate their finding to the real world. Very exciting stuff. For our summative task, the children will need a tri-fold poster. These can be bought at most stationary shops, feel free to buy one now and send it in with your child. MathFor math we are looking at multiplication, two digit by two digit. We studied two different methods and the children were encouraged to choose the method they feel more comfortable with. Now that we can all multiply a two digit by a two digit, the next step is to apply our skill to real life problems.
During our OUI we are investigating the follow strands to support us when we are doing experiments: The Big Idea – Accurate measurements impact the outcome of experiments. / Using a variety of tools allows us to plan and carry out experiments. In order for us to plan and carry out experiments we need to be able to:
Dear Parents,
Thank you to those parents that have made the payment for our overnight trip. I am pleased to announce that our class will the going on 8 and 9 December. All of the information you need is available on our weebly page and if you can’t find what you need then please contact me. Thank you Rudi Dear Parents, Grade 4 students have been given special permission to bring their own electronic device to school to support them with their learning. The devices will be used to research information and create presentations. I would like emphasize at this point that it is 100% optional. As a team, we feel that the children are ready for this step and we have clear expectations on how the devices will be used. Please note that children will only be allowed to bring their devices in from January, the purpose of this message is to give you sufficient time to think about the option and to get a device if you choose to do so. We recommend laptops as it is easier to produce documents and presentations on them where tablets are better used for consuming information. We will however accept tablets as they can be used for research. It might be useful to inform you at this point that it is compulsory for children to bring in a device during grade 5. Please have a look at the document below that has more details about this initiative but please remember that this will only commence until January. Please don’t hesitate to contact your homeroom teacher if you have any concerns. Mr. Botes Grade 4 Team Leader. |
