So far during the unit we have looked at how the different parts of a market are connected and what role each part play. After that, we discovered what supply and demand is and what role they play on a market economy.
This week we got into groups for the summative task. The students will now begin to work on their strategic plan. It is during this line of inquiry that they decide on a service, product or products to sell at the souk. The souk will take place on Wednesday 25/01/17 from 9am to 11am and you are all invited to come and support the kids. Please remember that this is their unit so please do not get involved, even if things aren't going well, it is all part of the journey.
So what will happen next?
Your kids may have already asked you for their start-up fund. Each group is limited to AED150. That means AED 50 each for a group of 3, 75AED for a group of 2 and 37.50AED for groups of 4. This money is to be used to buy the products or ingredients to make the products. Cost analysis is a big part of this stage of the unit and it is really helpful if the kids have receipts to use to calculate the cost price for their items. Please keep all receipts and send them to school.
The profit we make from the souk will be donated to Dubai Cares for the specific purpose of building a school in Nepal. I am very happy to give each parent their initial investment back at the end of the unit if you wish.
Groups may need to get together in their own time to make their products. Historically that has always just happened via parents making arrangements amongst themselves.
The souk will take place on the 25th. Please bring everything the kids need for the souk on the day. You can bring any items straight up to our room and then go back to the gym.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
